Nunthorpe is a suburban area located to the south of Stokesley, while Easterside is located to the north of the postcode and is home to several local parks and the James Cook University Hospital. Acklam is located in the south east and is a largely residential area characterised by and semi-detached houses, while Coulby Newham is a small but expanding village on the outskirts of the postcode. Schools in the area include Nunthorpe Primary School and Stokesley Secondary School.

In terms of transport, TS5 is well connected, with the A19 providing a main road running north-south through the area. The postcode is also served by regular bus routes and Middlesbrough railway station is located just 4 miles away.

The area is home to a number of attractions, including Acklam Hall, the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum and Stokesley Showground. It also offers a range of outdoor activities, such as walking and cycling along the River Leven and walking in Coulby Newham Park. Local sports clubs include Stokesley cricket club and Nunthorpe bowling club.
