The pedestrian crossing point on the junction of Malmesbury Road and the A350, is not fit for purpose. Traffic lights stop the traffic, who then block the pedestrian crossing point, as it is not marked otherwise. There is also a bus stop at the same point. Crossing with a pushchair, wheelchair, with young children or those physically impaired is dangerous.

Litter, 5th March

Dear Sirs, I wish to report (and get promptly actioned) the need for collecting litter from Argyle Drive, Cepen Park North. There is also a need to clear litter on the route taken by school kids back from Morrisons store to their schools on Hardenhuish (for example the lane leading from Sutherland Drive to Hardenhuish). Though the schools on Hardenhuish (Sheldon and Hardenhuish Comprehensives) have in the past told me their pupils are limited and can not walk up to Morrisons at lunchtime, we see pupils up here in Cepen Park North. I think it is mostly now those over 16 who are coming to Morrisons and dropping litter as they walk back from the store through Cepen Park North. There are several related points: 1. There are no street litter bins. There are only bins around Morrisons store, which is not much use to school kids who eat their lunch as they walk back to school and decide to get rid of their litter as they walk. They seem to think they can just put litter on the ground in the lane between Sutherland Drive and Hardenhuish and that it will either magically biodegrade, or that 'someone' will pick up after them. I have spoken to these kids and they say things like "It keeps someone in a job". They need educating. There seems little point in my asking kids to take their rubbish with them - they resent being pulled up on it and probably ditch their litter when out of my sight. 2. Your litter collections are not frequent enough. 3. There is very old litter on the ground between the trees and shrubs of Cepen Park North that your team never takes away when I request a litter pick. See for example the trees next to the electrical substation at the bottom of Argyle Drive. 4. There is usually litter around the electrical substation at the bottom of Argyle Drive and sometimes in the grit bins up Argyle Drive (I recently got rid of some when there was a need to access and spread grit on the icy roads and pavements - incidentally these grit bins need re-filling, please notify your colleagues in Highways, etc). 5. Morrisons store needs to take a more pro-active role - you should contact them and arrange something worthwhile then let me know that you have done so. 6. The schools need to take a more pro-active role - you should contact them and arrange something worthwhile then let me know that you have done so. 7. I am fed up of repeatedly reporting this to you and in the absence of a regular litter pick, having to pick up litter that is making the place look shabby. In trying to sell my house, I have often been faced with having to clear litter before viewings or leave potential purchasers with a bad litter-strewn impression of the area. I do not expect to have to contact you about this problem again. 8. I pay something around £1400 per year in Council Tax and it increases by significantly more than inflation each and every year. I expect a better, more pro-active service, not one that requires me to ring or email every time I think the place could do with a clean up! I look forward to your considered reply. Earnestly, Mark Doyle
