Pontardawe is also located in the Neath Port Talbot County Borough and is a bustling town with an estimated population of around 6,300 people. The town has a high street, two supermarkets, a number of shops, a leisure centre, a few pubs and restaurants, and an Arts Centre.

The SA10 postcode area is served by a few main road links including the M4 Motorway and three A-roads: the A4230, the A465 and the A483. It is also bordered by two major railway lines, the Neath-Swansea line to the east and the Heart of Wales Line to the west. In addition, there is a small local rail link in Skewen which provides access to surrounding areas.
