SO24 POSTCODE REGION

Southampton (SO24)

The SO24 postcode area is located in the Southampton postcode town region, within the county of Hampshire, and contains a total of 598 individual postcodes.

There are 58 electoral wards in the SO24 postcode area, including Alresford, Brockenhurst, Eastleigh, Lymington, Lyndhurst, Romsey, Southampton, Stockbridge, Winchester which come under the local authority of the Winchester Council.

Combining the whole postcode region, 41% of people in SO24 are classed as having an AB social grade, (i.e. 'white-collar' middle-upper class), compared to 27% across the UK.

This does not mean that the people of SO24 are wealthier - or higher class - than average, but it can be an indication that the area may be prospering and desirable to live in.

SO24 is a postcode district covering the towns of Alresford, Old Alresford, Medstead and Tichborne in Hampshire, England. It is in the Winchester post town and SO (South East) postcode area. It covers a mainly rural area, including parts of the South Downs National Park and Four Marks.

The postcode district includes two mainly residential areas, Alresford town and rural Upper Alresford. The latter includes the village of Tichborne and the hamlets of Faccombe and Ropley Dean. It is also home to the Tichborne Park Mansion, a Grade I listed building set in acres of landscaped parkland.

The nearest motorway junction is the A34 near Micheldever. Services in the area include Alresford railway station, located just off Station Road, and Hawkshill bus stop, on Alresford Road. Alresford also has several supermarkets and shops.

Faccombe includes Lacewood chapel, the oldest continuously used non-Anglican place of worship in England, and the Williams Arms pub. Ropley Dean is a small hamlet. It has The Magpie Inn, a pub quoted in the Domesday Book. Nearby is Ropley House, a 19th century thatched cottage, part of the Ropley Dean estate.

The region is home to two secondary schools - The Petersfield School and The Toynbee School. The Toynbee School is the only secondary school in SO24 and Central Hampshire with a sixth form, offering a range of A-Levels courses.

There are several churches in the area, including St Peter's in Old Alresford, St Mary's in Medstead and St James's in Tichborne. Other attractions in the area include East Tisted Farm, which has a tea shop and shop selling local produce, and the Old Forstal farm shop, which has a cafe.

SO24 is covered by three local authorities: Winchester City Council, East Hants and Hart District Council, and the South Downs National Park Authority. It is served by two MPs: Steve Brine for Winchester and Chris Huhne for Eastleigh.

The postcode is largely a residential area with a few dirt roads leading to fields, farms and dwellings. Its strong sense of community and village life, with popular local events such as the Alresford Fete and the Alresford Show, makes it an attractive area to live in.
