It is home to a large shopping district, with multiple large shopping centres and many independent boutiques and stores.

In terms of transport connections, Southampton Central Station is at the epicentre, with trains running to London in just over an hour. Various bus services also run across the area to neighbouring postcodes and beyond, as well as ferry services to the Isle of Wight. The M27 motorway is just a few miles away, providing quick access to other UK cities and ferry terminals.

In terms of culture, the postcode area is home to Southampton City Art Gallery, Stage Door and Theatre Royal, SeaCity Museum and the There and Then Visitor Centre. Various live music venues also exist, such as the Joiners, the Engine Rooms, and the Brook Theatre. The area also hosts regular outdoor markets every month, along with various festivals, parades and entertainment.

Furthermore, the SO14 area has a huge range of sports facilities, such as the City Sports Centre, the Ageas Bowl, the Stoke Park Country Club and the iconic Southampton Common. Southampton FC, based at St Mary's stadium, also offer regular professional football matches.
