A lot of the postcode district is covered by green space due to the presence of Swinley Forest, Crowthorne Wood and Wellington Country Park.

RG42 postcode includes several areas of notable natural beauty, including the look-out point from the top of Wanborough Hill, the scenic Irons Bottom Woods and the mature woods at Crowthorne Edge. Several sites of historical or archaeological interest are to be found in RG42, with twenty-four being registered with the local Historic England body. These include Picts Hill, an Iron Age Hillfort in Warfield, and Hampstead Hall Farm, a medieval manor house in Binfield.

In terms of amenities, the postcode district is served by several supermarkets, a number of pubs and restaurants, a cinema complex and a large country park. There are also a number of professional offices located in the area including a theatre design company, a landscape architect firm and an interior design agency. Education within the district is provided through several local primary schools, while secondary school pupils have access to the Garth Hill College, which is part of the local Prospect Education Trust.

Transport in the area is provided by the M4 motorway, which is easily accessible from the area, as well as a number of bus routes which run through the district. Public services in RG42 are provided by a local Citizens Advice Bureau, a Job Centre Plus and several NHS services including a dental practice, a GP surgery and an opticians.
