Loose 'for sale' sign on former RBS Bank Adlington, 9th March

Sat, 09 Mar 2024 12:13:48 +0000
53.612562 -2.604698

Half the 'for sale' sign blew off last night. The remaining sign is loose and blowing in the wind. It won't stay in place if the wind gusts and could land on a pedestrian or passing vehicle. Lamb & Swift have been notified by e-mail and via Facebook, but are probably not at work until Monday.

Fallen tree and damaged fence, 12th February

Mon, 12 Feb 2024 10:20:27 +0000
53.613401 -2.583927

A tree on motorway verge has been toppled by the wind and smashed into the motorway boundary fence causing rails to be damaged as well as weakening the whole fence structure. I have a couple of pictures if this will help.

Heavy-duty Blue Hose Dumped Jubilee Rec Adlington, 2nd February

Fri, 02 Feb 2024 11:00:19 +0000
53.611321 -2.606705

This hose was seen on 1/2/24 and reported in the main Adlington Facebook group. Assumed to have been stolen from somewhere nearby so somebody might claim it. Still there 2/2/24 but rolled up next to the railings so less of a tripping hazard.

M61 northbound, 28th January

A hole/ tarmac missing in the middle lane of the m61.. northbound, it’s about 2-3 mile ish after the services. it’s been like that for over a week now and getting worse. It’s northbound in the middle lane. Hitting that at speed is going to cause damage to cars and an accident.. the bang it made when I hit it I’m surprised it didn’t damage my wheel/ suspension and I’ve seen other cars hit it and brake, swerve after it

Flytipping Station Road Adlington, 19th October

Thu, 19 Oct 2023 13:04:19 +0100
53.611855 -2.605584

Rubbish has been dumped in the area where the Station Rd toilets used to be, so I think it's on Chorley Council land. I removed a broken umbrella and a bag of takeaway containers, but the rubbish was too much and I had nowhere to put it (wouldn't go in a litter bin). Possibly thrown over the railings from Park Road, or from a car parked on Station Rd. Let's hope there's evidence in the bag to enable a prosecution.

Vandalism to play area safety surface Adlington Jubilee Rec, 10th October

Tue, 10 Oct 2023 12:27:19 +0100
53.61148 -2.606764

A green glass bottle, probably lager, has been smashed against a piece of play equipment surrounded by the green safety surface. The pieces have then been kicked around. This seems a deliberate attempt by someone to injure younger children. We have removed the larger pieces of broken glass but there are tiny pieces in the safety surface which could still cause injury. I don't know how best you could remove them but a blower would just move them to somewhere else they could injure children or dogs.

Possible asbestos in Market Place (Adlington) litter bin, 14th September

Thu, 14 Sep 2023 13:14:05 +0100
53.612549 -2.604623

There's a broken sheet of what might be asbestos in the litter bin on the corner of Market Place and Bank Street, Adlington. I assume this should be handled with care when the bin is emptied. It might have fallen out of an overloaded skip and someone thought it safer to put in the bin rather than it being turned to powder by vehicles driving over it. There's also a rumour that the adjacent former bank premises have asbestos which is why redevelopment and sale has stalled.

Tyre dumped at Market Place Adlington, 3rd September

Sun, 03 Sep 2023 11:48:26 +0100
53.61253 -2.604318

This tyre was immediately beneath the Market Place CCTV camera before 10am on Sunday 3rd September. It would be nice to think that CCTV footage might show who'd put it there. After 11am on the same morning it had been moved between the two benches, as shown in the photographs. I assume someone wanted to move it where there was no danger of it being shoved into the road and becoming a traffic hazard.

General untidiness of Church St, 30th August

Wed, 30 Aug 2023 12:42:03 +0100
53.613663 -2.605208

The street has become unkept due to issues such as rubbish being left at front & rear of properties, weeds growing on the path & in gutters and litter/dog mess being left on the floor. The village enters Best Kept Village annually, but surely issues like this don't help when scoring is done.

Wooden Pallet on Jubilee Rec Skatepark, 18th August

Fri, 18 Aug 2023 11:49:38 +0100
53.611101 -2.606833

Yesterday this solid wooden pallet was next to the litter bin but I forgot to report it. Today it's on the skatepark, as shown in the photos. It would be harder to break up than the recent ones, so hopefully no bits of wood with nails sticking out will be spread round the area. If it disappears, a dog walker we know collects wood for a wood burner. The plywood ones weren't worth having, but this one would be. If he spots it first he might take it.

Wooden Pallet next to Jubilee Rec Skatepark, 8th August

Tue, 08 Aug 2023 12:42:30 +0100
53.610882 -2.606731

There was another pallet between the benches and the ramps this morning. It looked more solid than the recent ones so perhaps harder to smash into dangerous pieces. Probably heavier to remove. Somebody must be driving these to the park.

Junior Goalposts Abandoned at Adlington Jubilee Rec Grnd, 26th July

Wed, 26 Jul 2023 11:55:45 +0100
53.609456 -2.606968

Two junior goalposts are chained to a tree at the Jubilee Recreation Ground. They appeared around the time of the Adlington Carnival a week and a half ago, though we didn't see them in use. Inevitably they have been vandalised. Some plastic pieces have been smashed, and an expensive repair would be needed if even possible. It might be worth asking Adlington Community Events/John Bird if they intend removing the posts.

Two more wooden pallets on Jubilee Rec skatepark, 18th July

Tue, 18 Jul 2023 17:46:19 +0100
53.61134 -2.606817

The park was clear of pallets yesterday (Monday) but two more had appeared today (Tuesday). Similar pallets have been seen stacked to the rear of Ron Burgess' greengrocers on Park Road. It is possible that someone is removing them from there, driving them to Jubilee Rec, and then leaving them on/next to the skatepark. At best they're a tripping hazard. At worst, they get smashed up, leaving large nails sticking out of the broken pieces, which could injure or even kill a child or dog if they fell on them.

Railway Rd Adlington Litter Bin, 9th July

I'm sure the team which empties bins has reported this already, because it's been falling to pieces for months, but the old bin just before the railway bridge has crumbled to almost nothing.

Two More Wooden Pallets on Adlington Jubilee Rec, 6th July

Thu, 06 Jul 2023 13:39:37 +0100
53.611289 -2.606839

There are another two pallets of the recent type next to the skatepark. They must be too heavy for a child to carry, so it looks more likely that an idiotic parent is driving them to the park. The sooner they are prosecuted for fly tipping the better. Unfortunately we don't know which business is the source of the pallets. The ones nearest the park don't seem to use that type.

Yet another pallet on Jubilee Rec, 30th June

Fri, 30 Jun 2023 18:02:07 +0100
53.61106 -2.606774

Seen today (30/6/23) a pallet dumped in the area next to the skatepark. Not yet broken up and spread around but probably too wet weather. It's hard to believe anyone is carrying these to the park. Is some stupid parent driving to the park with the pallets? If so, it would be nice if they were prosecuted for fly tipping. Perhaps if CCTV is installed?

Another two pallets have been dumped next to the skatepark. They haven't been smashed up yet, but if the nice weather continues they probably will be soon. If they are, pieces of pallet with nails sticking out could be spread over a wide area, as before.
