Leyland, the largest town within the PR5 postcode area, is the birthplace of the iconic Leyland Truck, which has played a major part in British industry. Leyland is also the home to Faringtons Business Park, which hosts a wide variety of local businesses and hosts a weekly market.

Bamber Bridge is a popular residential suburb known for its excellent fish and chip shop as well as its local leisure centre, which includes a swimming pool, fitness centre, and sports hall. Charnock Richard is a modern suburb with many new residences and homes, while Cuerden and Croston are both picturesque villages and located in the countryside.

The area is served by many roads including the A6, A584, A59, and M6 motorways. Preston Guild Wheel, which encircles the city and extends towards the rural area of the postcode district, offers a great way to explore and enjoy the beautiful countryside. The Hills and Ridings cycle route also runs through the area from Leyland to Longton and beyond. The area also has great links to the nearby cities of Manchester and Liverpool via bus and train services.

PR5 residents have plenty to do with plenty of parks and gardens including Worden Park, Red Scar Park, and Withy Grove Park. Nearby leisure attractions include Brockholes Nature Reserve, and the Preston and District Golf Club. The area is highly regarded for its local hospitality with dozens of restaurants, bars, cafes, and pubs providing entertainment and refreshment for all.
