The area is served by two railway stations, Cosham and Farlington Halt both located on the Portsmouth Direct line, and is home to several popular transport routes such as the A27, the A3 (M) and the M27 motorway.

PO6 contains many popular tourist and shopping destinations – including the newly-revitalised Gunwharf Quays shopping centre – and leisure attractions such as Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, as well as dozens of smaller harbours and marinas. It is also home to two secondary schools, The Portsmouth Academy and Charter Academy, as well as several primary schools.

The postcode contains a mixture of housing types including terraced and semi-detached houses, detached family homes, and some modern developments. It is also home to a wide range of local amenities and shopping facilities – from local corner shops and supermarkets to larger retail outlets.

Property prices in the PO6 area, however, tend to be slightly higher than those in the neighbouring postcodes as a result of its location – with its close proximity to various transport links, the seafront, and amenities.

In terms of crime, the majority of offences tend to be of a low-risk nature and crime levels overall remain relatively low as a whole.
