PE2 is a postcode district covering the north-eastern part of the city of Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, England. It was created in 1996 and stretches from the edges of the city centre to the villages of Deeping St. James, Glinton, Peakirk, Helpston, Eye, Etton, Maxey and Barnack. This postcode district has an area of some 66 square kilometres and a population of around 13,293 people as of 2011.
The district is home to several schools, including Hampton Gardens Primary School, Jack Hunt School, Sir Harry Smith Community College and St John's Primary School. It's also home to various retail stores, most notably at the Serpentine Green Shopping Centre, where shoppers can find the range of popular high street stores along with many independent retailers. There are also small to medium sized industrial estates in the area.
The district's landscape is dominated by open countryside, with various farming activities such as sheep-rearing. The wide, flat Fenland fields are renowned for their attractive sunsets and vistas with the varying landscape rolling gently from the higher ground at Helpston to the low level Fens to the west. Further north, winding paths take you through the attractive Northamptonshire countryside.
The area is awash with local wildlife with many species of bird, including hawks, kingfishers, great crested grebe and lapwing, along with roe and muntjac deer. Anglers too will find plenty of trout and coarse fishing in the area.
In terms of transportation, the district is well connected with a number of bus routes serving the wider area. It also lies within easy reach of Peterborough's mainline railway station, providing direct services to London King's Cross.
Finally, for those looking to relax, there are a number of parks and green spaces in and around the PE2 postcode. Centenary Square is just a short walk away from the centre, offering several grassy areas, walking paths and outdoor benches – perfect for a sunny afternoon of reading or just enjoying the scenery.
