The NR24 postcode was introduced by the Royal Mail in July 1998 and covers around 190 square miles which lies to the south of A149, A140, and the A47 roads. The postcode itself is comprised of two parts, ‘NR' and ‘24', with the NR representing Norfolk and the 24 referring to the geographical area it covers.

As one of the larger postcode areas in the county of Norfolk, NR24 covers a total of 18 settlements, including the two main cities of Norwich and Great Yarmouth, as well as small coastal towns, villages, and rural landscapes. It is home to a variety of different industries, from agriculture and dairy farming to engineering and technology.

In terms of tourism, the area is home to a number of popular attractions, including the ruins of Norwich Castle, the Dragonfly Maze, the ‘Bacon Trail' exploring the life of Colonel George Bacon, and the Jodrell Bank Observatory. The NR24 postcode also encompasses the Norfolk Broads National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty made up of over 125 miles of navigable rivers and lakes.

The district has a population of 207,430 according to the most recent census, with these people mostly living within the city of Norwich, although there are sizable communities in some of the smaller towns and villages. The area has a wide variety of services including schools, supermarkets, arts and leisure centres, and healthcare facilities. The postcode serves a diverse demographic, with both urban and rural, as well as young and old population groups.

The area is the home of a number of famous people, such as author Robert Louis Stevenson, composer Benjamin Britten, co-founder of Thompson's, John Thompson, founder of the National Football MuseumHallam Amos, and the actor Tim Bentinck.
