Combining the whole postcode region, 29% of people in NE47 are classed as having an AB social grade, (i.e. 'white-collar' middle-upper class), compared to 27% across the UK.

This does not mean that the people of NE47 are wealthier - or higher class - than average, but it can be an indication that the area may be prospering and desirable to live in.

The NE47 postcode in the Newcastle upon Tyne district is an area of mainly rural Northumberland and includes the villages of Dilston, Whalton and Hebron. It is located between the towns of Morpeth and Hexham, as well as the City of Newcastle upon Tyne itself.

NE47 is part of the Newcastle International Airport's green belt, which is an area of protected countryside located outside the built-up area of the city - providing a natural barrier to urban noise levels. As a result, the area is characterised by rolling countryside, unspoilt villages and country lanes surrounded by farms, smallholdings and small hamlets.

Due to its rural nature, there are few amenities in the postcode and most residents commute to the nearby towns of Morpeth and Hexham for access to shops, services and businesses. However, it is close to the main A1 and A69 trunk roads and has excellent road and rail links to both Newcastle and Carlisle.

The area is known for its countryside walks, including the South Tyne Valley walk and Allendale walk. There are also some lovely churches and ruins of castles, including Black Stark Castle and High Factory Castle.

NE47 also has substantial industrial interes. The villages of Dilston and Whalton host industrial estates and there is a large number of businesses based in the area, including heavy engineering firms, meat production sites, agricultural and horticultural companies.

NE47 postcode also has a rich history and heritage. Its former collieries and farms have shaped the culture and identity of the area, while its churches and castles have imprinted a strong religious and spiritual impact on the area. In addition, it is home to many Tudor buildings and other historical architecture. The area is also popular with bird-watchers and walkers, as it is located on the migratory paths of species such as the Barn Owl, Red Kite and Fieldfare.

Local wildlife is also abundant; otters and badgers are often seen along the river banks, while foxes, roe deer and hares can be found throughout the area.

So I set out to pull it all apart and get it up and running again to become the most comprehensive guide to every postcode in the UK. And it's been a long, tough job from start to finish - and quite possibly the biggest project I've ever undertaken.
