For those looking for somewhere different to explore, the nearby Hetton Lyons Country Park provides 140 acres of trails, fishing and bird watching opportunities.

For history buffs, there's also the Hetton Colliery which is a Scheduled Monument and home to a rich history of coal mining and a colliery wheel.
