SW13 is a postcode district located in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It covers the northern portion of the district including Barnes, Mortlake and North Sheen, as well as East Sheen and parts of Upper Richmond Road West. The postcode is mainly residential, with Barnes Common (a natural sanctuary for rare birds) being the largest local open space.
SW13 is served by the city-centre-bound South West Trains and District Line services which run through Barnes and Mortlake Railway Stations. There are several bus routes that cover the area, connecting it to Central London (Brighton and Hove, Uxbridge, and West London all included).
The area is home to a number of architectural gems and landmarks, including the two Grade I listed buildings of Barn Church and Mortlake Crematorium, as well as numerous Grade II buildings. Notable estates include the Grade I listed Harwood Estate, the Grade II listed Crooked Billet and Strickland House.
There are a number of local schools including The Harrodian for little ones and Christ's School for secondary school age children. Nearby, the University of Roehampton is located to the west of the area and St Mary's University to the north.
The area also hosts several stages of the London Marathon as well as rowing events which take place along the River Thames. In addition, there are various local parks, along with a number of markets, including the popular Saturday morning Barnes Farmers Market.
SW13 has something for everyone – close proximity to London, family-friendly neighbourhoods, a wide range of historical buildings, natural open-air spaces, and various cultural experiences. With its enviable location, it is no surprise that SW13 is one of London's most sought-after postcodes.
