SE28 postcode is located in the London district of Thamesmead, located between Plumstead and the South Thamesmead lowlands. It stands for South East twenty eight and is served by the London Borough of Bexley. It included parts of Abbey Wood, Woolwich and parts of Shooters Hill.

Thamesmead was built by the Greater London Council in the 1960s on the south bank of the River Thames. Historically an agricultural area, its proximity to London meant it became an ideal spot for development and growth in the late 20th century. It is now recognised as one of the largest areas of south eastern London, dominated by low-rise residential areas.

SE28 postcode area is entered via the A206 Shooters Hill Road which connects to Plumstead Common. The postcode covers areas of both Abbey Wood and Woolwich. Some notable landmarks in the area include Woolwich Common, the nearby Royal Arsenal Development and Royal Arsenal Riverside (the area's most prestigious redevelopment) as well as the newly established landmark The Crystal - a stunning architecture of green glass towers. There are also a few well-known parks in the area, such as Lesnes Abbey Woods and the South Thamesmead Community Park.

The area provides an array of convenience shopping, retail and leisure activity. A number of local grocery stores, restaurants, takeaways, pubs, beauty salons and other services, as well as being served by bus and rail links to central London. The famous Thamesmead Shopping Centre is also located here as well as a cinema and leisure complex.

SE28 postcode is widely recognised for its excellent education and sport facilities too. Most schools in the area have achieved “good” and “outstanding” ratings, notably the Thomas Ritherdon (Primary), St. John Fisher (Secondary) and the Abbey Wood Institute (Further Education). The postcode is also home to a number of popular sports and fitness clubs, as well as a tennis centre and swimming pool.

On the whole, SE28 postcode provides access to a wide range of amenities and facilities for those living and working in the area, with continued infrastructural developments underway to further support the thriving community and current residents.
