It is well connected to the rest of London via a number of public transport routes, such as Thames Clippers, DLR, London Overground, and local buses.

The majority of properties in SE18 are detached and semi-detached homes, though it also includes a range of other housing options such as flats and maisonettes. Woolwich is the area's main housing hub and many of its homes are large suburban properties within reach of the city centre.

SE18's significant population growth in recent years has brought about a number of changes to the local area, including more restaurants, bars, and shops. It has also seen the opening of numerous leisure and entertainment venues, including the likes of the Royal Arsenal Riverside, The Brunswick Shopping Centre, and the Thamesmead Waterfront. In addition, the Royal Artillery Barracks, which is home to the National Army Museum, is nearby.

The Woolwich Centre is the district's epicenter for retail, offering a variety of shops and services, as well as a modern arthouse cinema. SE18 has several open green spaces, such as Woolwich Common, Shooter's Hill, and Maryon Park, which offer great opportunities for outdoor activities.
