The area is home to several shopping centres including Waterside Shopping Centre, St Marks Shopping Centre and The Cornhill Quarter. It is also home to numerous pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes and takeaways.

The LN1 postcode also encompasses several areas of green space including Boultham Park, August Fields, Boultham Moor and Skellingthorpe Old Park, as well as access to the Grand Sluice River. The area also includes a variety of religious buildings such as the Christ Church, St Giles Church and the Islamic Centre of Lincoln.

The area is well served by bus routes and is home to Lincoln Bus Station. It is also accessible from the A46 road. Lincoln Central railway station is also located within the postcode area.
