The area has a rich landscape of rolling hills, woodlands, and heathland, as well as some of Surrey's most important monuments, including an ancient Iron Age hill fort and a number of medieval castles. It is a thriving commuter area, served by the nearby M25, London Gatwick Airport, and the main London-Guildford rail line.

Domestic dwellings in the area include a range of historic and modern homes. Some of the most notable residential areas include Oak Hill Park, Oxenford Close, and Burnstead Lane.

The area is well known for its Charter Markets, which take place each Tuesday in Leatherhead. These are now a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, offering a range of locally produced food, antiques, and wines. Other shopping areas include The Howard Centre, which offers a variety of shops and restaurants, and the popular Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

The area also includes a number of parks, including Effingham Common, Horsley Towers Country Park, and Mole Valley District Council's Headley Heath. These provide numerous outdoor activities such as walking, horse riding, golf, and cycling.

A variety of educational facilities are located in the area, including the West Hill School, which provides secondary education for children aged 11 to 18. Some primary schools, including Effingham Primary and St Ivel School, are also located in the area.

The area is well connected to central London - the links from Leatherhead station provide direct access into London Waterloo Station in under an hour. Additionally, many bus routes travel to and from London.
