It is home to the nearby 12th century Rosemarkie Castle, which was once home to chiefs of the Clan Macrae. There is also the village of Fortrose, which is located on the northern coast of the Moray Firth and was once an important fishing and whaling village. It is also home to the Fortrose Cathedral, which was founded in 1230. Fearn is situated between rosemarkie and fortrose and is home to the Fearn Abbey which was one of the most affluent Cistercian monasteries in the country.

The area is picturesque and a popular spot for tourists. It offers great walking and hiking trails, beaches, lochs, countryside and wildlife. The Clan MacRae Nature Reserve is nearby, which is a great spot of nature and wildlife watching. There are also some historical sites in the area which can be visited such as the Black Isle Brewery Visitor Centre and the Inverewe Garden. There are also plenty of other facilities in the area including good schools, a leisure centre, pub, hotel and a number of shops.
