At the heart of the postcode district is the market town of Beverley, the birthplace of the English composer William Walton. Also located within the postcode area are several small villages, such as Cottingham, Hessle, Anlaby and Molescroft.

HU19 is mainly residential, although there are several industrial and commercial areas including the Freightliner Depot, Riverside Industrial Estate and various agricultural businesses. The area is also home to several places of historical and cultural significance, such as the Humber Bridge, Beverley Minster and the East Riding Museum.

Public transport links include direct bus services to Hull, direct trains to Driffield and Scarborough and frequent bus services to nearby towns and villages. The nearby University of Hull provides education to over 15,500 students each year so there are many opportunities for college and university students looking to start a career.

HU19 is also home to several well equipped sports and leisure facilities, including Leven Beach, East Park, East Riding Leisure Centre and South Cave Welfare Sports Hall, as well as many golf courses and equestrian centres.
