It is served by four railway stations - Brighouse, Low Moor, Hipperholme, and Rastrick - and has direct services to Manchester, Leeds, Wakefield, York, and Scarborough.

The educational needs of HX5 are catered to by five primary schools and three secondary schools, while its leisure and cultural facilities include the Brighouse Bay Aquatic Centre and the Brighouse Theatre. It also boasts a number of parks, including Crow Wood Park and Norfolk Park, and the local attraction of Cliffe Castle Museum.

The suburb has plenty of shops and restaurants, as well as local markets, such as the Thursday market in Brighouse and the Saturday market in Rastrick, and is home to a number of churches, including St. John's Church and St Stephens Church.

The area's economic base is made up mainly of small businesses, specialised services, and manufacturing, while the local community is supported by various health services, such as Locala Community Partnerships, which provide acute and community health services.

HX5 is a strong, vibrant community, with plenty of amenities and activities to provide for all the residents. From leisure and education to health care and jobs, it is a thriving township.
