The postcode district also includes several medium-sized villages and hamlets in its borders, and has a predominantly rural population.

Interesting places nearby include the British Wildlife Centre in the village of Lingfield, several National Trust properties, the Watts Gallery in Compton, and the Alice Holt Forest, a large ancient woodland in the hills of the North Downs.

The postcode's Mediaeval origins are reflected in many of the villages, which are characterised by pretty, historic churches, winding lanes, and traditional public houses. The surrounding countryside includes woodlands, rivers and rolling hills.

The climate in the area can be described as being mild in magnitudes, and experiencing a short, cool summer, with long, cold winters. Rainfall ranges from moderate to heavy, and some snowfall occurs in the winter months.

In terms of education, the area is served by several primary and secondary schools in nearby towns, such as Godalming and Farncombe. Local independent schools include Charterhouse and Royal Grammar School in Guildford.

The postcode also contains several recreational sites and activities, including numerous golf courses, walking trails, and horse riding centres. Alton and Haslemere both have cinemas offering the latest films, and there are several theatres in the area including one in Guildford. Additionally, there are pubs and restaurants in nearby towns, offering a variety of cuisines from traditional English fare to modern European dishes.
