The G2 postcode district consists of two post towns, Glasgow and Pollokshields, and covers 2.1 square miles. Its population in 2018 was 8,157. It contains the neighbourhoods of Glasgow City Centre, Glasgow Harbour, Tradeston, Merchant City and Garnethill.

Glasgow City Centre covers the city's core tourism, commercial and shopping areas, as well as its main streets and squares. Glasgow Harbour is a mixed residential, leisure and office development located at the mouth of the River Clyde. Tradeston is a commercial area located between the city centre and the west end. Merchants City is the oldest part of the city centre and is packed with Victorian buildings, galleries, boutique shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs. Garnethill is the oldest residential area in Glasgow and lies at the south-western side of the postcode district.

Glasgow's G2 postcode district is covered by a mix of public transport, including bus and rail services. The city's main railway station, Central Station, is located in the G2 postcode, as are a number of underground stations. Glasgow's motorway network is also in close proximity to the postcode district.

Glasgow's G2 postcode district is home to a variety of cultural attractions and amenities, including the Glasgow School of Art, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Glasgow Science Centre and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
