DN40 is serviced by seven bus routes, enabling local residents easy access to the district's other towns, villages and further afield.

A good selection of primary and secondary education is available in the DN40 area. local options include Broadacre Primary Academy, Hodsock Primary School and Bessacarr Primary Academy in Thorne. The area offers secondary accredited education for students aged 11-18 at Outwood Academy Adwick and South Axholme Academy. The district also houses a number of special educational needs providers.

The DN40 area is home to a wide range of organisations, groups and community activities for local residents, of all ages. Local leisure attractions in the area include Lakeviews at Gainsborough, Ollerton Watermill and Bawtry Forest Visitor Centre. The district is also home to the Doncaster Canal and River Lina, providing a range of opportunities for fishing, walking and cycling.

In addition, DN40 is renowned for its sporting culture and a number of high-quality sports facilities. These include the Crowle Leisure Centre, Sykehouse Bowling Green, and Doncaster Senior League Football Stadium. DN40 is also home to numerous local sports clubs, such as Thorne Rugby Club, Thorne Cavaliers Football Club and Gainsborough Town FC, amongst many others.
