The villages within this postcode are Crakehall, Tursdale, Middleton-in-Teesdale, Gainford, Wackerfield, Sockburn, Thorpe Larches and Whorlton. North of DL15 is the postcode DL12 which is a larger village called Staindrop.

DL15 is part of the Teesdale Unitary Authority. This local government region is made up of four councils; County Durham, North Yorkshire, Cleveland and Darlington.

DL15 is home to many farms, much of which is managed by National Trust as it is part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This postcode is also part of the North Pennines European Geopark, meaning it has special geological features which have been recognised by the EU.

The area has a diverse range of plants and animals, with many protected species in and around the AONB. Some of the larger animals which can be found in and around the area are Red Deer, Badgers and Roe Deer.

The closest town to DL15 is Bishop Auckland, which is around 10 miles away and can be reached by car in 30 minutes. Darlington and Barnard Castle are both around 25 miles away.

DL15 is served by the Staindrop to Durham County Council bus, which runs Monday to Friday, with an additional service on a Saturday and Bank Holiday Mondays.

In terms of attractions, DL15 has the 17th century hall Gainford Hall, along with the ruins of Egglestone Abbey. Easby Hall near Richmond is also close by, making DL15 an enjoyable place for those interested in history.
