DL11 also includes some picturesque rural villages, such as Shocontee and Neasham, which are mostly comprised of the traditional terraced and semi-detached houses found widely across the North East. The riverside town of Gainford, located near the southern part of the postcode, is notable for its 19th century stone bridge, Hall Garth Park, and the part-ruined Gainford Hall.

Bishop Auckland, on the western edge of the DL11 region, is a town steeped in history and culture, with many of its buildings being grade-II listed. The town is home to a castle, a golf course, and even a museum dedicated to the story of King Alec.

The DL11 postcode also encompasses Brasside, a small hamlet which is primarily residential, and Westwick, a village located near the banks of the Tees.

The postcode is home to a wide variety of roads and public transport links, with the main railway line running through Bishop Auckland and an extensive bus network servicing the surrounding villages. There are also a number of cycle routes, including a route connecting Darlington to Stockton, and a greenway route which follows the side of the railway from Gainford to Bishop Auckland.
