In terms of transportation, CO12 is served by Clacton railway station, providing direct services to Colchester and London Liverpool Street. The nearby A133 also connects to Colchester and Clacton. Airports serving CO12 include London Stansted and London Southend, both of which are within reach.
Well-regarded schools and colleges within the postcode district include Colne Community College, Tendring Technology College, Great Clacton Infant and Junior School, and Clacton County High School.
In addition to its attractions, CO12 is an area of significant industrial activity. The harbour is well-known for its maritime, fishing and oilrig support facilities, as well as a major supermarket distribution centre. The district is also home to several large manufacturing businesses, such as Unitech, an electronics and engineering firm.
Furthermore, the Clacton coast boasts many sites of scientific importance, such as the Essex marshes, which are recognised internationally as a vital wildlife habitat. The Grade II listed St Peters Chapel near Walton, constructed in 1845, is also located within the area.
