Mobile dot matrix sign causing congestion/ distraction, 12th March

Tue, 12 Mar 2024 10:12:35 +0000
53.303283 -2.971855

Good morning, There is mobile dot matrix sign positioned just before J5 southbound M53 as three lanes merge into two. The sign has been positioned in the past week and is a long distance away from the carriageway. The text is small and there is a large amount of detail describing the roadworks due to take place over 20+ weeks on the M53. The positioning of this sign and the small text is causing traffic to slow significantly at the point of the lane merger, which is causing a large amount of unnecessary and potentially dangerous congestion through distraction especially at rush hour. Please could this sign be moved or a much larger sign be installed? Many thanks.

As you come off junction 5 onto m53 northbound there is such a flood that there's a wall of water thrown up onto windscreen. It's extremely dangerous especially in the dark as you can't see anything and you just pray you don't have a crash !

M53 JCT 5 eastham north, long standing series of pot holes., 15th February

Wed, 15 Feb 2023 19:16:43 +0000
53.303577 -2.976432

Past JCT 5 m53 northbound where the m53 merges into 3 lanes on the first lane there is a series of deep potholes in quick succession. I counted 4 deep surface imperfections which have been there for in excess of 6 months. Potentially damaging the right side of suspension components. The direct opposite side m53 southbound approaching JCT 5 has three also. Could you please advise on potential repairs to improve safety as it is impacting on driver behaviour to avoid, if yes, within what kind of timeframe? Thank you

2 x 12-15 inch potholes, 5th December

Sun, 05 Dec 2021 09:15:18 +0000
53.310129 -2.974175

The potholes appeared about 2 month ago. They are located at the entry to Sutherland drive, Eastham. the Lyndale Road end. These 2 pothloes are causing damage to tyres as you turn left off Plymyard Ave onto Sutherland Drive. People are turning wide to avoid these potholes and are therefore creating a danger for other traffic at the T junction. They desperately need filling in very soon because of this danger.

Litter both sides, 19th March

Fri, 19 Mar 2021 08:02:52 +0000
53.306196 -2.987587

After recent accidents on the M53 between junctions 4and 5, sadly one fatal, there are a number of flattened trees close to the hard shoulders, but mainly the amount of litter all along both sides. Worst of all is the amount of rubbish on the exit slip road south bound at junction 5. Whilst cars are stationary at the red lights, seems a good time to empty out excess rubbish through the car windows, it looks like the day after the Glastonbury festival but no one to clean it up ! Would it not be possible to install cameras from the traffic light power source to fine these disgusting litter louts or at least a warning sign or two ?

Drainage issue, 25th January

Mon, 25 Jan 2021 22:54:49 +0000
53.322275 -3.010626

I unfortunately spun out of control on the M53 last November due to this part of the motorway. It had been raining heavily, I was travelling around 60mph when all of a sudden my car skidded and spun 360 leaving me in the right hand lane facing the central reservation. Thankfully I was extremely lucky. There was about 2/3 other cars that I witnessed this happen to between 5-10 minutes after it happened to myself. Since then, I personally know others and have also seen numerous cars that have had the same experience, as I drive on the motorway daily for work. Recently due to the bad conditions of weather we have had, I have driven past a car over turned on it’s side at the exact same area. And only last week, did a young man unfortunately lose his life. I am utterly terrified driving on the motorway on my way home, I avoid it at all costs when the weather is bad. It is in between junction 5 and junction 4 travelling towards Liverpool. With the recent flooding and heavy rain we have had, there has been sand bags placed on the hard shoulder in the exact area. This surely means there is an issue? With cars travelling over 60mph every minute I personally feel something needs to be done. I feel there is a bad drainage issue on this part of the motorway and it shouldn’t be taking lives. I’ve never been anxious of driving, but ever since that happened to me, I am a nervous wreck. Please, all I am asking is for this to be looked at, it’s so sad seeing this happen to so many other people and nothing happening. I really look forward to a response as this is something I am incredibly passionate about and I want people to be safe.
