The area is served by two primary schools: St Margaret's Primary School in Stanwix and Harraby Community Church of England Primary School in Kingmoor. In addition, there are several health care facilities in the area, including a GP surgery, opticians and a dental practice. A range of shops and restaurants line the main roads and there is also an independent cinema located in one of the shopping areas.

The area is served by several bus services, operating from the city centre to the surrounding villages. The postcode is also very close to the M6 motorway, providing access to major cities like Manchester and Birmingham.

In addition to Carlisle itself, there are many attractions to be found within the CA18 postcode, including the historic ruins of Langwathby Castle, which date back to the 11th century, and various other historic remains in Stanwix and Kingmoor. For walkers and cyclists alike, the district is served by a number of footpaths and bridleways including the Waverby Way which circles the area, connecting Carlisle to its surrounding villages.
