A street full of independent retailers are near by, including Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The city's main cultural attraction is the Marlowe Theatre, a venue that stages drama, music and comedy. The area to the west is home to the University of Kent, a research university ranked in the top 20 universities in the UK.

CT4 has a number of parks and green spaces, such as Dane John Gardens, Lady Wootton's Green and St Augustine's. A number of National Trust properties are close by, including Littlebourne and Elham, Cockering Farm, Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens, and Chartwell House. Canterbury Racecourse and Oaks Golf Club are located to the north of the postcode district, and the North Downs Way runs through the district.

CT4 caters to shoppers with a range of boutiques and independent stores. The Kings Mile is an historic street full of antique and craft shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. The Whitefriars Shopping Centre also has many range high street stores and restaurants.

Residents of the area enjoy an array of leisure activities such as the city's festivals and events throughout the year, and there are plenty of outdoor activities available close by. These range from walking and cycling routes, to nearby beaches and beauty spots.
