The area is also well served by a number of schools, including the popular Downside School, Queen Victoria School and Chew Valley School. There are also a range of churches and chapels, as well as a full range of amenities, including shops, supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and takeaways.

The BS39 postcode district is a popular place for outdoor pursuits, such as walking, cycling, fishing and bird watching. There are several nature reserves and plenty of picturesque walks around the area. Local events include the annual Chew Valley Festival, which takes place each May, and the Bath & West Show, which is held in Shepton Mallet each June.
