BN12 is an important area for transport links due to the strong connections to the major urban centres of Brighton and Worthing. It is served by National Rail, with the main line running through Saltdean and the Brighton to Worthing line running through Peacehaven. There are also two bus services (the 700 and 727) that operate through the district.

BN12 is home to a range of industriessuch as small factories, garages, industrial estates and a wide selection of retail outlets. There are also manufacturing and engineering centers, arts and entertainment places, schools, supermarkets, cinemas, pubs and restaurants. The local landscape is varied, and there are accessible parks, woodlands, beaches, and coastal areas which attract many visitors.
