BL6 is a post town which covers parts of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Bolton and Wigan. It is located in the Metropolitan county of Greater Manchester with parts of BL6 in Lancashire.

The postcode was developed in the 19th century and sent out for national recording in 1857. The letters BL stand for Bolton-Lancashire.

The postcode covers parts of Horwich and Blackrod as well as some other smaller villages including Lostock, Adlington and Lostock Junction, Emberton and Wingates.

It is a popular residential area as it is close to Manchester and Liverpool as well as easily accessible via both the M61 and M60 motorways.

Nice, quiet good neighbourhood. But it is not in Greater Manchester!! There is NO such county. It is still Lancashire!!! Greater Manchester is purely and simply an administrative area NOT a county. You should get it right.
