The area is fairly suburban in nature, with most streets lined with well-kept terraced houses, many of which were built after the 1930s. Other housing available in the district includes semi-detached properties, detached houses, modern apartments and converted flats which are more frequently found in the centre of Blackburn.
The region is within easy reach of the A666, the main road leading into Blackburn leading from Manchester, and is served by a number of bus routes for travelling to nearby areas.
The district is home to a number of schools, including Meadowhead Primary school, Feniscowles Primary School, Stonyhurst College and The Willows Primary school. There is a local leisure centre and the nearby picturesque Pleasington Cemetery, while nearby Witton Country Park is a popular attraction.
Both Feniscowles and Whitebirk also have shopping parades for convenience, and the area is well-known for its ethnic minority population, particularly the significant numbers of Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities.
The area also has two railway stations, the more popular Pleasant Street and Revigliano station, plus two mosques and a variety of Hindu places of worship. These include Hindu centres such as Neelkahani and Punjab Temple.
The postcode district is mainly residential and is considered a great place for people to live. It has low crime levels and good public transport and facilities that make it a popular choice for young families.
