In recent years, the area has become well known for its nightlife and culture; Selly Oak is host to many bars and clubs for students whilst Bournville remains renowned for its chocolate factories.

Stirchley is a vibrant and diverse area known for its independent cafes and shops, including the renowned Stirchley Baths. The area also serves as the start of the Rea Valley Route, an 8-mile cycle route running alongside the River Rea from Stirchley to Edgbaston Reservoir.

Cotteridge and Kings Norton both have their own community centres, with Kings Norton being home to the historic Victorian Monyhull Church as well as several interesting local landmarks. Bartley Green is a bustling residential neighbourhood and West Heath is a semi-rural village with a range of amenities.

Weoley Castle, located in the B30 postcode area, is a 15th century ruined castle owned by Birmingham City Council and a Scheduled Monument of national importance. The area is also home to several parks and nature reserves, including the Selly Oak Park, Lickey Hills Country Park and the Frankley Beeches Nature Reserve.
